Nyheter før 2005– News, gigs and stuff

2005:

After I became chairman of the songwriter club Nye Skalder in Oslo, all my free time has been used for that and keeping up their website, with weekly updates (and often more). The spare time left goes to making music and graphics, so please bear over with me for not updating my own website very much. Take a look at nye skalder to see what we do... The plans for my next album is still going forward though – I record new songs almost every month.

September 2003: More concerts, and some DVD work

23 Sept I played a duo with Tommy Stensrud on Steinset near Oslo, for Det Norske Veritas the whole evening.
Thursday 25 sept: Concert in Nye Skalder with Swedish singer Maja Sandberg and Martin Aakervik, with Torbjørn Holte on bass. Hey, that's the same day as Laibach performed in Oslo (Rockefeller) - Nikola called and we met again, even though we played on different locations the same night.

Oslo Radio Orkester played 3 days at Karl P in Lillestrøm near Oslo, from Friday 12th to Sunday the 14th. The press is slowly starting to discover us too. Avis1 had a big colour picture with the press release on Sept 4. I did have a cold but was able to sing the Reality Song for the first time these nights.
On the normal working hours I was producing two DVDs for Norsk Folkemuseum (the National Museum). Interesting work - paid work too, for a change...

Nye Skalder mascotAugust: Concerts again, and new design on the Nye Skalder website

I'm now playing with Oslo Radio Orkester once a week (Mondays or Sundays) on the Evergreen Pub and sometimes on Saturdays at the Excellent with Lommeradio-orkesteret, both in Pilestredet, Oslo. (Evergreen is close to Holbergs Plass/ SAS Radisson Royal Hotel). The Mondays are considered "public practice sessions" and maybe we'll be able to play the Reality Song next time. In August I also made the annual folder for the Yggdrasil Yoga school (a good way to relax and concentrate - check out yogakurs.no!)

Website redesign: the last week in August I started a design overhaul of the songwriter club Nye Skalder's website (nyeskalder.no), as the board wanted a new look and shorter download times. Mainly basic html and a new logo plus some drawings (like the guitarist on the left). I've also ordered a domain so they'll get a simpler web address from September. So far only the most important pages have been recoded, the old programs for previous years stay as before. I'll try to engage more people to ensure weekly updates. (--A brush-up of the rauset.no site is long overdue as well... ;-)

July: Making music, full time...

(...but the heat wave in Oslo makes me crazy, and my economy is worse than ever - no income the last 8 weeks). The three songs I'm working on in right now:

June: Concerts...

From June 1 to 14 I stayed in the Casa Cantus in Nerja, recording 3 new songs. The day after I came home I played with Oslo Radio Orkester at an outdoor concert in Birkelunden, a beautiful park in Grunerløkka, Eastern Oslo. On Tuesday 17 I played a concert with the Elvis Proysen Band at "Per på Hjørnet" in central Oslo, and on Sat 21 I played in Asker west of Oslo.

May: Composer's Scholarship and stay in composers' house

I've been granted a scholarship of 15.000 NOK (2000 US$) from the Norwegian Composers' Fund to work on new melodies. At the same time I was offered a two weeks stay for free in the Composer Union NOPA's house in Nerja, Spain (near Malaga) in June. It has a big appartment containing a synth and Internet connection, just bring a Mac and the projects... Thanks to the commitees!

Photo collage by ØyvindApril: Photoshop world exhibition 2003

One of my digital artworks (a troll pushing the Oslo Plaza Hotel) was accepted at the International Adobe Photoshop exhibition. It is shown at the PhotoWorkshop website in cooperation with Adobe. 280 pictures were picked out among more than 3000 entries from professional photograpers all over the world. Click here to see the big slideshow...

Finally some new music:

I just finished home-made demos of two new songs: Enebakk-song (my first attempt to make a "rai" tune, with a lot of text help from Einar Jerpseth) and "Reality is over-rated, dear", my first song in English. The last one I made during a late Sunday night in March. I'm singing on this version and Truls Tambs-Lyche plays the bass on both songs. (A newer version with Mads Oppegaard on vocals is posted above).

Bokomslag: Katta SyngerSong book:

On March 7 I finished the design of an 80 page song book made for the 850 years anniversary of the Oslo Cathedral School (see below).

Mic repaired:

March 7: Truls Thambs-Lyche (the bass player who also specializes in old tube radio technology) unscrewed my Neumann U-47 and found a bad welding in the capsule (no wonder, it was made in 1951)! Now it works again, both in sphere and cardioid mode... I've been handicapped by this for weeks, now I'm back recording again. Truls has also changed all the condesers in the big AC unit ("Netzgerät") - they had leaked and made the microphone prone to malfunctioning on "bad" days... now it's always up and running after the 2 minutes warm-up time. (The U-47 was sold by Telefunken in the US until 1961, which gave it the nickname "Telly". Frank Sinatra once said "he'd never sing without his Telly").

Bokomslag: Gode Gamle KattaBook design:

Not much music in January 03, due to the fact that I just finished the design on a 500 pages book on the 850th anniversary of my old school, "Oslo katedralskole" or "Schola Osloensis" as it was called in the Middle ages. I'm really proud of this school and happy to be working with the editor Oystein Eek putting together this great puzzle of texts and photos of teachers, headmasters and earlier students (among them were both our present king Harald, and former prime minister Jens Stoltenberg). (HERE is a short 8mm-film clip from the schoolyard in 1970, with students from my class ;-)

Concerts: Oslo Radio Orkester had concert in Oslo County Prison on Dec. 23 and in Cordial on Dec. 26. Plus in Skuret Culture Pub on Jan 9, and in Lillestrom on Jan 10, 2003 (I had pneumonia and couldn't be in Lillestrom, probably shouldn't have been in Skuret either, but was... so now we have a new song on the Radio Orkester page: Russian Lullaby...).

Nov 13: Recordings & videos from my concert on Oct 8
I finally got the minidiscs that Bjorn in Nye Skalder recorded on my concert - here are some of the highlights in MP3 format:

Oct 15: New music download service

From now on my cd "13 Impossible Dances" can be downloaded from the new Norwegian Music Online service "Phonofile". You can download tracks or the whole album. (Only support for Windows 98 and newer in Oct 02, Mac support from November). They have several download sites - one is NOPA/Musikkonline. If the download price is too high for you, try out www.mp3.com, I have some of the tunes there for streaming. Search for Rauset - listening is free!

Rauset concert posterSunday Oct 06, 2002: My "debut concert" in Nye Skalder.

This was the first concert in my own name, so that's a debut, right? Jon Egil Brekke stepped in on guitar on the Danse Impossible and gave it a conciderable lift! I did this tune only once before, live on a Friday TV show ("Endelig Fredag") with guys from Ym-Stammen and Anders Rogg) but this sounded just as good! Maybe it's not so impossible after all, with good musicians... Truls Tambs-Lyche did a fabulous job on the base throughout the show, playing not only on my tunes but also accompanying Mads Oppegaard and Einar Jerpseth - and the band I used to play with in the 70's/80's: Folque, who had their first full-blown performance in 8 years! The show ended with me playing with Oslo Radioorkester, acoustic blues and jazz from the 20's. See the slideshow here. After the main show we had Open Scene with other friends performing, among them Espen Hagerup (the great Bellman interpreter) and his girlfriend Eva!

Takk til dei som var med:

Truls Thambs-Lyche (bass), Mads Oppegaard (sang, gitar), Einar Jerpseth (sang/gitar), Jon Egil Brekke (gitar), Folque: Jenn Mortensen (sang), Morten Bing (gitar, mandolin), Lars Helljesen (el.gitar); Oslo Radioorkester: Jan Ellefsen (sang, dobro/slide, mandolin, gitar), Otto Bratsberg (sang, gitar), Anders Viken (sang, trekkspill), Tommy Stensrud (sang, gitar), Torbjørn Holte (sang, bass), Lars Birkelund (perkusjon, sang). - OG ikke minst: Takk til lydmann Bjørn fra Nye Skalder for en fantastisk jobb ved spakene! 20 Sept 2002: First rehearsal with Oslo Radio Orkester

in a beautiful cottage near Vikersund, 100 km from Oslo. No TV, no radio. We played music constantly for two days, and did some amazing recordings on a minidisc, which I edited on the PowerBook. This was our first rehearsal together!

See the the special Oslo Radio Orkester page!

Øyvind with Einar JerpsethSongwriter club:

Since January 02 I've been going to the songwriter club "Nye Skalder" (New Bards). We meet every Thursday at 20h in "Prøverøret" (The "Test tube"), The basement of Bør Børsen in Trondheinsvn 12, near the old Schous Brewery. See their website for more info. Most of the friends who have recorded here are from this club. We've already done more than 30 songs - watch out for exciting demos from these guys!

Right is a photo of me and Einar from a Nye Skalder-trip to Telemark where we played on the song festival "Viser ved Kanalen". Listen to the song we played when the picture was taken - it's called Bryggepils but I call it "Clark Kent".

Concert at big movie festival:

ZoomIn concert photoI played with a great rock group - Bandkind at several concerts in Oslo in 2002, plus did some violin on their new sigle (produced in 2003). Pictures from the Bandkind concert in Oslo Aug 25, 2002.
